The company's VG-Shipping has snapped up the 4,200-dwt Aava VG (ex Nemuna, built 1998) and Lotta VG (ex Visurgis, built 1997) from Shipcom Bereederungs. They are sisterships of a vessel already operated by VG. They are 1A ice-classed for shipments in the Baltic Sea and North Sea. "Increasing our tonnage is a clear goal. We are constantly looking for new vessels for purchase and time chartering," said Beppe Rosin, vice managing director. "We want to serve our clientele in the size of 3,000 and 4,000 tonners, as well as our new size class, 8,000 dwt. The acquired vessels strengthen our market position in the smaller size class." After the deal, VG-owns eight cargoships with a total load capacity of 39.000 dwt. The whole Meriaura fleet, including time-chartered vessels, consists of 20 vessels with a total cargo capacity of 81,000 dwt.
