On the afternoon of February 27, 2026, the container ship MSC Shannon III became temporarily stranded on the Western Scheldt near Waarde, Netherlands. The vessel, en route from Antwerp to Montreal, experienced anchor-related technical issues that resulted in the ship becoming disabled. With assistance from a Rijkswaterstaat patrol boat, the situation was resolved by releasing the anchor and a portion of its chain to the seabed for later recovery. The vessel was able to resume its voyage shortly thereafter. No injuries or pollution were reported.
Finnish Coast Guard alerted after fire erupted in engine room, the ship was disabled. As of Nov 8th 2021, fire extinguished and vessel on anchor getting ready for next voyage.
