Casualties & incidents
The three most recent recorded casualty or incident events are shown below.
On the evening of February 6, 2026, the LNG bunkering tanker K. Lotus (IMO 9901362) sustained damage during a bunkering operation on the Nieuwe Maas River in Rotterdam. The incident occurred when a stack of containers collapsed from the German-flagged containership Bangkok Express (IMO 9943889), which was engaged in cargo operations at the same terminal.
At least five containers landed on the stern of the K. Lotus, while several others fell into the water. Bunkering was immediately halted and the crew evacuated the tanker as a precaution, leading to a temporary suspension of terminal operations. While the extent of the structural damage to the K. Lotus remains under assessment, no injuries or pollution were reported. An investigation into the cause of the stack collapse is currently ongoing.
