Containership MSC Silvana VIII has sunk in the Zhoushan area of China after progressive flooding following its grounding on 11 July, shortly after leaving a ship repair yard. It had been at the repair yard since 22 June and had difficulty navigating during Typhoon Bavi, leading to its grounding. Despite multiple refloating attempts, the vessel remained aground and took on water, flooding areas such as the engine room and cargo holds. By early August, significant portions of its hull were submerged. Although 3,000 tonnes of fuel have been removed to aid recovery efforts, the forecast of Typhoon Dolphin is expected to further hinder these efforts.
