Ship Tracking and AIS Data
Public vessel tracking commonly relies on AIS, the Automatic Identification System, and on data made available by external maritime data providers.
Vessel positions may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable or based on the last publicly received AIS transmission. A position shown on Ship-Tracker.org or through an embedded third-party service should therefore not automatically be interpreted as the vessel’s exact current location.
Ships may stop transmitting AIS, operate outside available reception coverage or have their public position data delayed or restricted.
Vessel Information and Identifiers
Ship-Tracker.org may display vessel names, IMO numbers, MMSI numbers, call signs, vessel types, flags, ownership information, technical particulars and other maritime data.
Where available, the IMO number is used as the primary permanent vessel identifier. Other information, including vessel name, MMSI, call sign, flag, operator and ownership details, may change during a vessel’s lifetime.
Historical, renamed, transferred, converted, laid-up, scrapped or otherwise changed vessels may therefore appear with information that reflects different points in their operating history.
Limited Public Availability
Military, government and other security-sensitive vessels may restrict, disable or modify public AIS transmissions for operational or security reasons.
The absence of a publicly visible AIS position does not mean that a vessel is not present in a particular area. Likewise, an older publicly available position should not be interpreted as a vessel’s current location.
Ship-Tracker.org does not provide classified, restricted or non-public military location information.
Third-Party Maps, Tools and Services
Ship-Tracker.org may link to or embed services operated by third parties, including vessel tracking providers, booking platforms, maps, videos and other external services.
These services are operated independently from Ship-Tracker.org. We do not control their availability, accuracy, privacy practices, technical operation, terms of use or content.
The presence of a third-party link, embed or reference does not imply that Ship-Tracker.org guarantees or endorses all information or services provided by that third party.
