Why Is There No Live Aircraft Carrier Map?
Ship-Tracker.org currently does not display an aircraft carrier position map unless sufficiently reliable publicly available position data is available. Military vessels may disable, restrict or interrupt AIS transmissions for operational and security reasons.
Showing an old position as if it represented a ship’s current location would be misleading. For that reason, this page currently focuses on verified vessel information, ship identifiers and publicly available fleet data.
A live or last-known-position map may be added in the future when a suitable and reliable data feed is available.
U.S. Aircraft Carrier Fleet List
Individual carrier entries will be connected to the Ship-Tracker.org vessel database using the IMO number as the primary vessel identifier wherever applicable.
Ship Name
Each available carrier can be connected directly to its individual Ship-Tracker.org vessel page.
Hull Number
U.S. Navy aircraft carriers are commonly identified by naval hull classifications such as CVN numbers.
IMO Number
Where an IMO number is available in the Ship-Tracker.org vessel database, it is used as the permanent primary vessel identifier.
MMSI
MMSI identifies maritime radio stations and may be available for vessels that have publicly transmitted AIS information.

Are U.S. Aircraft Carrier Positions Available Live?
Public real-time tracking of military vessels is limited. Aircraft carriers and other naval ships do not necessarily transmit AIS continuously, and a position displayed by a public tracking service may represent only the last received signal.
For this reason, Ship-Tracker.org does not assume that an old AIS position represents a vessel’s present location.
Recent Public Position
A recently received public AIS position may provide a general indication of where a vessel was last observed.
Old Position
A position from hours, days or longer ago must not be interpreted as the vessel’s current location.
No AIS Signal
The absence of public AIS information does not mean that a vessel is inactive or absent from a particular region.
Future Data Feed
Position information can be added when Ship-Tracker.org has access to a suitable public or licensed vessel-position feed.

Why Can a Military Ship Disappear From Public Tracking?
There are several reasons why a naval vessel may not be visible through public AIS services.

Nimitz Class
Nimitz-class carriers have formed a major part of the U.S. Navy carrier fleet for decades and are nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.
Gerald R. Ford Class
The Gerald R. Ford class represents the newer generation of U.S. Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.
Carrier Air Wing
An aircraft carrier normally operates together with an embarked air wing consisting of several types of naval aircraft.
Carrier Strike Group
Aircraft carriers commonly operate as part of a larger naval formation containing escort and support vessels.
What Public Vessel Data Can Tell You
Public maritime information can provide useful vessel identifiers and historical observations, but it should not be confused with complete military operational information.
Ship names, vessel identifiers and publicly transmitted maritime data can help identify a ship. They cannot reliably reveal classified routes, operational intentions or a complete real-time picture of naval deployments.

Ship-Tracker.org displays and organizes publicly available or properly licensed maritime information. Military vessels may disable, restrict or change their transmissions at any time. No guarantee is made regarding completeness, accuracy or real-time availability.

Where are U.S. aircraft carriers right now?
Ship-Tracker.org does not currently claim to provide complete real-time locations of U.S. aircraft carriers. Public AIS information for military ships can be incomplete, delayed or unavailable.
Why is there currently no aircraft carrier map?
A map is only useful when the underlying position data is reliable enough to display responsibly. Ship-Tracker.org therefore does not present old or unavailable positions as current vessel locations.
Can aircraft carriers switch off AIS?
Military vessels may restrict or disable public AIS transmissions depending on operational and security requirements.
Does no AIS position mean the carrier is not operating?
No. A vessel can remain fully operational even when no publicly receivable AIS position is available.
Will Ship-Tracker.org add aircraft carrier positions later?
Position information may be added when a suitable and reliable public or licensed data source becomes available.
Can I search for individual aircraft carriers?
Yes. Use the Ship-Tracker.org vessel search to look for ships by name, IMO number, MMSI or call sign when those identifiers are available in the database.
