Why Is There No NATO Warship Live Map?
Ship-Tracker.org currently does not display a NATO warship position map unless sufficiently reliable public position data is available. Military vessels may disable, restrict or interrupt AIS transmissions for operational and security reasons.
An old AIS position should not be presented as the current location of a naval vessel. For this reason, this page currently focuses on available vessel information and public maritime data rather than potentially misleading positions.
A dedicated map can be added when Ship-Tracker.org has access to a suitable and reliable public or licensed vessel-position feed.
How Are NATO Warships Tracked?
Public military vessel tracking mainly relies on AIS transmissions and other openly available maritime information.
AIS Signals
AIS can transmit vessel identity, position, course and speed when the system is active and the signal is received.
Public Reception
Coastal and satellite networks may receive AIS transmissions and make selected information available through maritime tracking services.
Vessel Identification
Ship names, MMSI numbers, call signs and other identifiers can help distinguish individual naval vessels when public data is available.
Last Known Position
A publicly displayed position may represent the last received AIS signal and should not automatically be treated as the vessel’s current location.
Why NATO Warships May Not Be Publicly Visible
Military vessels operate under different conditions from commercial shipping and may deliberately limit their public electronic visibility.
Not Visible Does Not Mean Not Present
If a NATO naval vessel is not visible through a public AIS service, this does not mean that the ship is inactive or absent from a region. It only means that no suitable public AIS position is currently being displayed.
Likewise, an old AIS position should not be interpreted as a precise current location. Public military vessel information can become outdated much faster than standard commercial shipping data.
What Public NATO Vessel Data Can Show
Ship Identity
Public information may include a vessel name, MMSI, call sign and other available identifiers.
Last Public Position
Where available, public AIS information may show the last position at which a vessel was received.
Course and Speed
Some AIS transmissions may include navigation data such as course and speed.
General Vessel Information
Public databases may provide vessel type, dimensions, flag and other non-sensitive ship particulars.

Public AIS data should not be confused with complete operational information, and no guarantee is made regarding completeness, accuracy or real-time availability.
